Tax years and planning assumptions
The calculator supports 2025/26, 2026/27, 2027/28, 2028/29 and 2029/30. Figures for 2027/28 onwards are provisional planning estimates using announced rules and explicit assumptions for rates not yet published.
Last checked: 19 September 2026.
2027/28, 2028/29 and 2029/30 are provisional
Personal Allowance and income tax/NI thresholds follow the announced freeze to April 2031. Savings and property rates are 22%/42%/47% from April 2027; dividend rates are 10.75%/35.75%/39.35%. Plan 2 stays at £29,385. Plan 1 uses its published April 2027 threshold of £28,005. Other loan thresholds, Child Benefit, minimum wage and auto-enrolment thresholds are held at their latest published levels, without assumed inflation increases. These are planning assumptions, not confirmed future rates.
Company-car Benefit in Kind uses the published rates: electric vehicles are 7% in 2028/29 and 9% in 2029/30; cars emitting 1–50g CO₂/km are 18% and 19% respectively.
Pension salary sacrifice from April 2029
For 2029/30, the first £2,000 of annual pension salary sacrifice is modelled as NI-exempt; the excess attracts employee and employer NI. Income tax relief and the ANI reduction remain. The estimate uses the exemption in payment order across the year and shares it across jobs; payroll timing and multi-employment details remain provisional. Student-loan deductions use the resulting NI-able pay as a planning assumption.
The NI cap covers regular pension sacrifice, sacrificed bonuses, auto-enrolment salary sacrifice, AVCs and one-off pension sacrifices together. Employer NI shared back into the pension is limited to the saving actually modelled. Ordinary employer pension contributions do not use this cap.
Scope of these estimates
Employment and property income use England, Wales and Northern Ireland rates. Scottish employment income bands are not modelled. Childcare estimates use England’s rules and the age-21+ earnings minimum. Future minimum wage and benefit upratings may change the results.
The £20,000 ISA figure is the overall allowance. The announced £12,000 cash ISA limit for under-65s from April 2027 is not a separate investment allocation model in this calculator.
